Alice in Wonderland
at Forde Abbey
Robert James Workshop is delighted to once again be displaying our bronze sculpture collection in the historic gardens of Forde Abbey in Chard, Somerset. The gardens are open between March and October, so book your tickets now!
“She was now only ten inches high, and her face brightened up at the thought that she was now the right size for going through the little door into that lovely garden.”
A beautiful day out in Somerset
In Forde Abbey’s new restaurant courtyard, set against a backdrop of stunning gothic medieval architecture and the beautifully attended gardens that ground staff have worked on tirelessly in the build-up to spring, you'll find a few familiar bronze creations!
The collection might be small at present, but we’ll be adding pieces throughout the year to impart a dash of literary magic to an already picturesque day out in the Somerset countryside.

VISIT FORDE ABBEY
Find your favourite Wonderland characters
Lewis Carroll’s enchanting Alice in Wonderland book series is very much the theme of the current sculpture ensemble at Forde Abbey – with an inquisitive Alice sculpture positioned grandly in the courtyard, joined by a Mad Hatter Water Feature and a spectacular Mad Hatter Tea Party Urn that will never fail to impress visitors to the 12th-century former monastery.
If your curiosity for our bronze garden features has been suitably kindled; just a 5-minute drive away, the Robert James Workshop Gallery will soon be opening – a wonderful opportunity to view the entire range of sculptures and meet the master sculptors themselves, Robert and James.
It will be by appointment only for those interested in a commission – look out for more details in the coming weeks!
