Meet Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin and Piglet Too!

An antidote for the complex and often dizzying pace of modern life, Winnie the Pooh, the simple tale of a yellow bear and his loyal friends – and their adventures together –continues to provide comfort and wisdom to readers of all ages.

Once upon a time, a very long time ago now, about last Friday, Winnie-the-Pooh lived in a forest all by himself…

Since its first publication in 1926, A.A.Milne’s Winnie the Pooh has occupied a special place on the bookshelves of readers across the world. 10 heart-warming stories, threaded together with universal themes of friendship and morality, the adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin, Piglet, Tigger and the rest of the residents of Hundred Acre Wood, resonate in popular culture as powerfully today as they did nearly a century ago.

A bear of very little brain

Winnie the Pooh

Winnie the Pooh’s fondness for honey is perhaps the best illustration of his own outlook on life. To enjoy the simple pleasures of existence — a timely reminder to us all!  A self-described ‘Bear of Very Little Brain’, Pooh entangles himself in all manner of sticky encounters throughout Milne’s classic children’s story — from chasing beehives up trees to rescuing Piglet from a flood with Christopher Robin’s upturned umbrella — and approaches each adventure with same optimism and heart.

Imperfect, forgetful, but a true friend to those he calls such. Winnie the Pooh’s idiosyncrasies are what undoubtedly what make him one of the most loveable characters from children’s literature.

I wonder what's going to happen exciting today?

Piglet

A pint-sized pig with a hero’s heart. Despite his outwardly unconfident nature, Piglet isn’t always quick to shy away from his fears, and within lurks a quiet bravery that may surprise even himself. Indeed, he shows plenty of courage when helping rescue Pooh and Owl from a collapsed house in the The House at Pooh Corner. Or, for that matter, when embarking on a hunt for Heffalumps and Woozles in the same book!

A loyal friend to Winnie the Pooh, intelligent, and wonderfully kind to those around him, its difficult to imagine a more loveable character from children’s literature in the last century.

'It's hard to be brave,' said Piglet, sniffing slightly, 'when you're only a Very Small Animal.'

How about a story?

Christopher Robin

Decidedly not an animal, but nevertheless one of Winnie the Pooh’s closest companions and friend to all the creatures that live in Hundred Acre Wood. Christopher Robin is a thoughtful and kind-hearted young boy, named after A.A Milne’s real-life son of the same name.

An embodiment of the innocence of childhood and the power of creativity and imagination in an otherwise ordinary world, Christopher Robin is another much-loved character in the Winne the Pooh book series.

“We didn't realise we were making memories, we just knew we were having fun….”

The Poohsticks Bridge

“Any day spent with you is my favourite day. So today is my new favourite day.”

Like many simple pastimes, Poohsticks is an entirely invented game, one that involves dropping sticks from a bridge and racing them down a river or stream. The English author A.A. Milne created the game for his son Christopher Robin Milne and was first popularised in Milne's 1928 book The House at Pooh Corner.
