OUR STORY

Handcrafted
Bronze Sculptures
for the Garden

There are gardens you admire, and gardens you remember. Our work begins with beloved book illustrations and ends in bronze, cast using the lost wax process and finished by hand in South Somerset and Dorset.

Robert and James have been together making art works of various kinds for nearly 30 years.

Living in the rolling hills of West Dorset, a stone's throw from the Jurassic coast, bronze sculptures based upon their love of literature are taking shape. Classic illustrations are modeled in clay and then turned into bronze – sculptures for the garden – stories to be enjoyed in the round.

What's the difference:

Why hot cast bronze

Hot cast bronze is the traditional method: molten bronze poured into moulds to create sculpture prized for strength, resilience, and a rich finish that ages beautieces are limited edition, made to be lived with for generations.

Cold cast bronze uses resin and bronze powder and can closely mimic the look of bronze, but it is lighter and less durable. If you are choosing between the two, we explain it clearly, with examples.

Typical lead times: because each piece is handmade to order, hot cast is typically 12 to 20 weeks, and cold cast is typically 6 to 10 weeks.

Testimonials

What our customers have to say

Hello over there in England…I bought my Christopher Robin Water Feature 10 years ago after visiting your stand at the Chelsea Flower Show. He was delivered safely and securely all the way to Perth in Western Australia. Still working perfectly and making me smile every day.

He sits on a stand outside my bathroom window where I can see him from the inside as well. Thankyou - I love him.

During a visit to the Hampton Court Flower Show I finally got to see some of the exquisite creations of the Robert James Workshop. I stood amazed at the vision of the Queen of Hearts towering amongst the greenery and was instantly transported into my favourite book Alice in Wonderland. I not only treated myself to the Miniature Queen but also to the Mad Hatter and The Mad March Hare

Wonderful quality, craftsmanship and customer service. I know I will be buying from them again as I have my eye on the very cheeky Cheshire Cat.

In 2020, in Australia, during a long lock down, unable to attend the Chelsea Flower Show as our borders were closed, we decided to buy Alice Enchanted for our garden. We had seen Alice at the Chelsea Flower Show and loved her. Her whimsical expression is so divine. She has such a grandly naughty personality in my imagination!

We love her so much and she brings us so much joy in a world that certainly needs it. 2020 was the year of Alice and in 2021 we purchased Mr. Tod and went through the grand adventure once more- he is a handsomely debonair rascal.
